5 Ways to be More Organized at Home

1. Use a Calendar

Many people don’t understand the importance of using a calendar. If you’re currently not using a calendar, I highly suggest you start! There are so many types of planners available today; I’m sure you can find one that suits your needs. Some people prefer digital, some prefer paper, and others use a combination of both. For example, I use a paper calendar to see everything at a glance, and I use my phone calendar to schedule reminders.

A calendar helps relieve stress in your day by telling you what you should be doing and where you should be. Once you write the appointment down in your calendar, you no longer have to worry about remembering it. An even better solution would be to add the appointment to your phone calendar and set a reminder for you to leave ahead of time so you’re not late.

This tip alone has helped so many of my clients reduce stress and be more organized at home because now they know where they are supposed to be and when they should leave the house. Cozi is the digital calendar I recommend to my clients because it’s free and offers many valuable features.

2. Make a List to Be More Organized at Home

Every morning or evening, write a list of things you need to get done. Always put the 3 most important tasks at the top of the list. Once you complete those 3 tasks, you will feel accomplished and ready to tackle the rest of the list.

In addition to writing your to-do list, plan and write down what you will have for dinner. It is even better if you can plan your meals for the entire week. If you have trouble coming up with creative meals for dinner, check out this meal plan and recipe guide I created to help my clients get started. Knowing in advance what you’re going to eat for dinner relieves you of the pressure of coming up with something interesting to make every night.

3. Take a Break

I know it seems counterintuitive to tell you to take a break when trying to be productive and organized, but this is important. You will need to take some time to clear your head and recharge at some point during your day. Consider doing something that relaxes you, like taking a walk, reading a book, stretching, or whatever makes you happy.

Moms are always doing for others, and it is important to take care of yourself, too! Don’t feel guilty; you can’t care for others properly if your tank is empty. This is an opportunity for you to fill up your tank so you can keep going. Schedule something relaxing every day and add it to your calendar.

4. Tidy Up Daily to Be More Organized at Home

Taking the time to tidy up your home each night will keep it from getting cluttered. Set a timer for 15 minutes and put things back where they belong. To save time, I like to keep a basket nearby and fill it with the items that need to go upstairs. That way, I only make one trip to put those items away.

5. Ask for Help

When tidying up your home each night, don’t hesitate to ask your family members to assist you. If they helped make the mess, they should help clean it up. If you set the timer as mentioned above, you can turn it into a game to see who can clean up the most items (adding a small reward like a few M&Ms will help keep them motivated!)

That’s It!

Once you begin implementing these five ways to be more organized at home, you will experience less stress and enjoy being in your home more.
