10 Ways to Automate Your Life So You Can Have More Free Time

If you’re anything like me, you wear a lot of hats. You’re running a household, managing finances, keeping everyone fed and clean, maybe running a business, and trying to squeeze in some peace and quiet. It can feel like there’s never a moment to breathe. So today, I’m going to talk about ways to automate your life, so you can have more free time. Now, I’m not talking about robots taking over your home (although a good robot vacuum does help). I’m talking about smart, simple systems that work for you so you don’t have to think about them again.

Here are 10 game-changing ways to automate your life to save time, reduce stress, and reclaim your sanity.

1. Set Up Automatic Bill Pay and Transfers

Automate Your Finances First

One of the best ways to avoid late fees and financial stress is to set up automatic payments for your bills, including utilities, credit cards, subscriptions, and other recurring expenses. Also, set up automatic transfers to retirement accounts, emergency funds, or savings accounts.

💡Try an account like Capital One 360 for a fee-free checking account. There’s no minimum balance or overdraft fees.

2. Use a Budgeting App That Tracks for You

Let Tech Handle the Numbers

Rather than tracking every dollar manually (which I used to do with pen and paper), I now recommend apps like GoodBudget, YNAB (You Need a Budget), or EveryDollar. These apps can connect to your bank accounts and categorize expenses to help keep you on track.

💡Download these budget and debt trackers to stay on top of your finances!

3. Automate Your Meal Planning and Grocery Shopping

Feed Your Family Without the Daily Stress

There are lots of services like Plan to Eat, eMeals, or Prepear that I highly recommend to automate weekly meal plans and grocery lists. Some even link to grocery delivery services like Instacart.

💡I created my own 44-page Digital Meal Planner with 28 family-friendly recipes that you can repeat each month. It’s a lifesaver!

4. Use a Robot Vacuum Daily

Keep Floors Clean Without Lifting a Finger

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but a robot vacuum is not a luxury; it’s an act of self-care. 😉 You can set it to run every morning while you’re out walking the dog or working, and come home to fur-free and crumb-free floors.

💡I recommend the iRobot Roomba 692 – budget-friendly and gets the job done!

5. Create an Email Filtering System

Let Your Inbox Work for You

Use folders, labels, and filters in Gmail or Outlook to automatically sort emails. For example, bills can go in one folder, newsletters in another, and important contacts get top priority. Less scrolling means more time to focus on other things.

💡Unsubscribe ruthlessly to accounts that are no longer serving you, or use Unroll.me to bulk unsubscribe with one click.

6. Use Subscription Services for Household Essentials

Never Run Out of Toilet Paper Again!

Thrive Market, Amazon Subscribe & Save, or Grove Collaborative can automatically deliver essentials like paper towels, soap, dog food, or vitamins right to your doorstep on a schedule you choose.

💡I set our household essentials for once-a-month delivery, so I don’t have to think about them again.

7. Automate Decluttering with a Monthly Donation Box

Keep Clutter from Creeping In

Set a reminder for the first weekend of every month to drop off a donation box, and keep one running in your closet at all times. This small routine keeps clutter from building up.

8. Use Smart Plugs and Timers Around the House

Simplify Routines and Save Energy

Smart plugs and timers can turn on lamps at sunset, start your coffee pot at 6:45 AM, or even warm up your heated blanket on chilly mornings.

💡The Kasa Smart Plug Mini is affordable and easy to use with Alexa or Google Home.

9. Schedule a Weekly Cleaning Routine with a Checklist

Automate the “What Should I Clean?” Problem

Instead of wondering what to clean every day, create a weekly cleaning checklist and assign one or two tasks to each day. Print it, post it, and follow it. It’s like a recipe for a tidy home.

10. Batch Tasks and Automate Reminders

Get Ahead of Mental Clutter

Batching tasks, such as paying bills, responding to emails, or planning meals, can prevent constant distractions. Use calendar reminders to automate when these events should happen.

💡I batch blog writing on Mondays and work on the finances on Fridays. Every task has a day and time, so I don’t have to keep a running list of things to do in my head.

More Automation, Less Chaos

Automation is about reclaiming your time so you can focus on what truly matters to you. Whether that’s family dinners, peaceful mornings, or finally reading that book gathering dust on your nightstand. It’s not about becoming lazy or giving up control; systems make space for life.

If you’re ready to automate your life, start small. Pick two areas to automate this week and build from there. You’ll be amazed how much lighter you feel when your life starts running with you, not against you!

Which tasks are you going to focus on automating this week? Let me know in the comments. I’d love to know!
