How to Get Your Family On Board with Organizing

  1. Get the family working on the same calendar. Our family uses the FREE Cozi mobile app to keep our appointments in check. Everyone in our house with a smartphone has downloaded this app.  Because we all use the same calendar, we always know who is supposed to be where. Once you add an appointment or make a change, it updates everyone’s calendar simultaneously. You can even sync it with other calendars. Cozi is the best calendar to help you declutter your family life. There are many calendar systems available. Try to find one that meets your family’s needs.
  2. Create a weekly schedule for household duties. Think of the best days to perform specific activities such as bill paying, meal planning, grocery shopping, and house cleaning, and add them to your calendar. Set reminders so you don’t forget!
  3. Delegate duties to able bodies. This is my favorite tip of all! Everyone in the house is capable of performing some type of task. Little ones can help pick up their toys, keep their rooms neat, put their laundry in drawers, and set the table. Older children can take out the trash, vacuum, empty the dishwasher, and wash their own laundry. Think of things you normally do for your family that they can perform on their own. (Examples include making lunches, feeding pets, making beds, etc.) Everyone should work together to keep the household running smoothly.

That’s it!

Following these tips will definitely help you get your family on board with organizing. Everyone will know what is expected and can perform their tasks effectively.

What tips do you have to get your family on board with organizing? Have they been easy to implement, or do you get pushback from family members? Share them in the comments. I’d love to know! 🙂

    1. Hi Stacy! The best part about enticing our kids to help out when they are younger is that it becomes a habit. Catching them while they are young and want to help is the best time to instill that “all in this together” vibe. Great job, and thanks for your comment! ~Leigh
