I love shopping at Target so much; I shop there every week.  I’m always amazed at how I am able to save money at Target. I get the majority of my personal care products for FREE or very inexpensively when I shop there.

How to save money at Target

The first thing you’ll want to do is sign up for Target’s REDCard. They have a Debit and Credit card. Both cards give the same benefits: 5% off all purchases, free shipping on online orders, 30 extra days to return items and up to 1% donated to your favorite school. The debit card is connected to your bank account, and you can withdraw up to $40 from your account when checking out at the register. Learn more here.

Next, you’ll want to sign up for Target’s Cartwheel app. Once downloaded, you will be able to select specific coupons to add to the Cartwheel app. When you reach the checkout, show your personal Cartwheel barcode and all the coupons will be deducted from your shopping trip. Target often adds high-value coupons to Cartwheel. I have used 50% off clothing in the past as well as on other items.  The great thing about using the Cartwheel app is that these coupons can be used in addition to manufacturer’s coupons! There are many times when a Cartwheel coupon and a manufacturer’s coupon will be available for the same item. This is how I get so many products for free. 🙂

Bring your own bags and Target will take 5 cents off your order for each bag you use.

Another trick for saving at Target is to shop their end caps (shelves at the end of each aisle). This is where you can find deeply discounted items, sometimes up to 90% off.  Have coupons ready because you can get a lot of items for free or very cheap from this section.

Visit blogs that are devoted to helping you save money at Target like Totally Target and All Things Target.

Target will match the sale price if you find an item cheaper in a competitor’s ad. Bring the ad to Target and they’ll match the advertised price. The competitor’s ad must be local and current, and the product must be the identical item, brand name, quantity and model number. Target’s Price Matching Policy.

There you have it! Now you have many tools to help you save money at Target.

Let me know if I missed any tips. How much did you save during your last Target trip? Which strategies do you use? I’d like to know!

  1. These are all great tips! I worked at Target for several years, we always put clearance toward the back of each department so that people would have to walk by the fresh, full-priced items first. Patience pays off though, the new items will eventually go to clearance as well!
